Why a new memory card using Raid-style technology may protect Data
Many companies use Raid systems to protect their most sensitive data, but is a memory card effective in protecting a business’s most sensitive data? Is a memory card better than using Raid systems? No data recovery solution is 100 percent fail-safe, but backing up data can be one way business’s can keep their data safe. It can also mean a company does not have to pay for data loss recovery from professionals.
Should professionals trust new technology that may keep data safe without requiring an actual Raid system? A Japanese company has developed a memory card that may prevent memory failure. How does this card that uses Raid -like technology show promise? It is different from a typical camera memory card.
Why is Raid different from this new camera Card?
Raid or redundant array of independent disks is a common computing technology, in which, data is written from one drive to another. Known as mirroring, did you know that this second drive is a backup of the first drive? While some cameras offer dual card slots as a form of data protection. This new compact flash card, known as Amulet, uses a Raid idea. It divides a card’s 64 GB capacity into two 32 GB partitions. The information is then saved to two different partitions. Why are these cards a good option to protect sensitive data?
This new card has a read/write speed in mirroring mode of 30/25 MB a second, but these speeds can jump to 65/50 MB per second if you use this card as any standard card, in a full-64MB mode. Is this a long-term solution that may replace Raid arrays? It may not completely replace a Raid system. While these new cards cannot be used to swap out a drive because it is on a card, you may still be able to get live data off this new card. But if the data is failed hard drive recovery, you may not be able to get data if it has been damaged. In the future, will these be a product that will be more useful to homeowners who need to keep data safe? If this product sells well, other manufacturers may copy this camera card that acts like a Raid-type system. Though it may cost more than your typical camera card, it may worth it to some small business owners and homeowners.
